Hi Friends! I hope you are all having a great Spring and are enjoying the holiday weekend. I've been having lots of fun creating all different kinds of new artwork. I've been painting and doing some digital art as well, and have shared some of my new designs in my Society6 shop and I'm happy to say they've been picking up momentum. Last week I was beyond thrilled to find that my Starry Boho Moons design had been curated by Society6 into the "New" section across each of the categories in their Home Decor section. Yay!
If you know how deep the competition is on Society6, this is a huge accomplishment and I'm really proud of my design. There are thousands of artists on Society6 who each day upload hundreds upon hundreds of new pieces of artwork.
Along with this, you are bound to see lots of folks going with trends and what they perceive as popular, so at times, designs can be kind of repetitive. The best thing that you can do to stand out is to really just be yourself and do your own thing and create something that is completely new and completely you. Follow trends? Sure, but to stand out from the crowd there has to be something special about your design that makes it unique to you.
Starry Boho Moons actually started out as a watercolor painting with highly saturated red and yellow moons on a deep blue background. Once I scanned my painting into my computer and began adjusting the colors and details I soon found myself with this black and gray design. A new design was born.

I was actually surprised that this piece was chosen to be showcased - as it wasn't my personal favorite from my shop - but it just goes to show that our own personal tastes aren't always what is going to be the most popular with other people or the general public. Keep that in mind! Try new things.
One of my favorite things to do is to play with color schemes. I love the way this Moody Hipster Mandala design turned out. If you are a regular reader of my blog you might recognize this design from the super-fast time lapse video that I did of this design a couple months ago...
I finally taught myself how to cut out images and make backgrounds transparent. This process takes a little bit of time but the effort is so worth it because you can do cool designs like my Psychedelic Doughnut t-shirt (below), and with a transparent background this image can be put on any color shirt, sweatshirt, hoodie, etc.
This design is an original watercolor painting. Once I scan it into my computer, I can change the color scheme and come up with all different effects. It's really fun!
Because everyone should have a psychedelic doughnut shower curtain, ya know?...
Below is the same design, but with my original color scheme.

The last design I'm going to share with you today is entitled Paintbox Dreams, and it's a colorful watercolor painting that has kind of muted tones. Here it is below in an art print and mug. Hope you like them!
