All Hail The Pumpkin! Amazing Fall Pumpkin Displays

I see them. They're everywhere. In people's yards. On the side of the road. In fields. On display outside of every single grocery store I pass. It used to be just orange colored ones. Now there's white, yellow, blue, green - pumpkins everywhere. Big ones (I like those), small ones (I like those too!), tall ones, squat ones, you get the picture. Pumpkins are everywhere. Well, at least they are where I live - in Pennsylvania. Pumpkin territory.

For the past few years I wrote blog posts about the creative ways that different folks display and gussy-up their pumpkins. They paint them, decoupage them, glitter and sequin them, stack them, transform them into spiders and cats and giant eyeballs. All of those are cool. They're creative and unique. But sometimes I like my pumpkins just - pumpkins.

Below I've collected some of the most beautiful au naturale pumpkin displays put together by some creative, like-minded folks. Which style do you prefer?

New Vintage China Pendants

Here a few of the pieces I'm working on this week. Which do you like?

Hi friends! Here's just a quick update on what's new in my Etsy shop today. Lots of roses and a few more pansies on the way. I just love that pansy china - it's extremely old and the colors are still looking great. The detail and coloring of the transfer are so well done, vibrant and colorful ~ a true antique!

I love these long, rectangular shaped pendants. I think they have a bit of a more contemporary look, and they're definitely fun to wear. I get loads of compliments on mine!

This petite Bohemian square is one of my favorite patterns. I love the size and the colors and how there is really nothing else like it, at least that I've seen. At a time where EVERYTHING is now called Boho or Bohemian, THIS truly is a Bohemian design! I chose the freshwater pearl and Swarovski crystal to compliment the china - I think they give it a really soft glow and I love that they don't distract from the pretty china pattern but instead accentuate it.

I hope you like them! All items shown are available for sale in my Etsy shop, so be sure to check them out for more info on each piece.

Let me know what you'd like to see next!

If you've purchased from me and want to show off your jewelry please send me a photo of you wearing it and I would LOVE to feature it on my blog and/or my Dishfunctional Designs Facebook page!

Feel free to send me photos through Facebook or email them to me at sales@dishfunctionaldesigns.com or even through an Etsy message. I LOVE seeing folks enjoying what I make so send me those photos!

Antique Halloween Postcards Turned Into Awesome Jewelry

Antique Postcard Jewelry by Laura Beth Love
Vintage Halloween postcards transformed into unique jewelry
(don't worry - no original post cards were harmed in the process!)

I love the change in season from summer to fall. By late August/early September our local grocery store already has Halloween candy on display! Is it a bit too early for that? Maybe, but the lure of Halloween is one that I’ve always found especially charming. I love vintage Halloween items. Decorations, masks, costumes and postcards from years past have quite a different charm than those we see today.

The nostalgia of yesteryear is apparent in these vintage collectibles, and for many, brings back memories of childhood fun and games, costumes and trick-or-treating.

Halloween truly is a timeless holiday. What other time of year allows us to be something we are not, to fully use our imagination and allow reality to slip away, even if just for one night?

Halloween Postcards

I once read somewhere that Halloween collectibles are more desirable than collectibles from any other holiday, with Halloween postcards being some of the most sought after items do to their rarity. The illustrations and color lithography on these cards are beautiful.

Depictions of witches, black cats, jack’0 lanterns, as well as fortune games and scenes of children bobbing for apples are common designs. I personally am intrigued by those with anthropomorphic figures; the corn-cob man and the grinning pumpkin head girl, vegetable people with smiling faces.

It’s amazing to think that at one time (around the late 1800’s and on) Halloween postcards were once as popular as Christmas cards!

Be sure to check out my Halloween Postcard Jewelry. A few of them are reversible, with a different vintage Halloween image on each side. Others feature a single image on one side. Each is very cool!

I’ve been making jewelry from antique and vintage postcards for a number of years now, and in my opinion, the Halloween images are the most intriguing than those of any other
holiday. (Aside from Halloween I also make them with Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day
and St. Patrick’s Day postcards) …And don’t worry, no original postcards are harmed in the process!

Have a great week & Happy Fall!

New - Soft & Shimmery Rose Gold Style Decor

Not only do rose and gold make a GREAT combination, rose-gold themes are so hot and completely on trend this year!

I created two brand new rose gold themed designs for home decor and personal style. The first design I did was a hand-drawn mandala illustration that I drew in ink pen and then added color digitally. The second design I created was an acrylic abstract painting that I did in white with shades of pink and rose and just a touch of shimmery gold. I LOVED how it turned out!

These designs have a soft, feminine look and I think they are great for all ages. I'm excited to share them with you! Click the text below each photo for more information for each item.  Each can be found in my Society6 shop or my Redbubble shop, and be sure to check out all of the other products in my S6 & RB shops (not shown below) - phone cases, travel mugs, notebooks, tshirts...that are also available in these beautiful patterns! I hope you like them!
